My CES 2010 notes....Displays

3D, 3D, 3D.....seems all of the large display manufacturers are showing it. I've seen some of the recent movies in 3D in the theaters and was anxious to see it on a home sized display. It knocked my socks off.... Monsters v Aliens on a flat screen TV looked perfect. Being a tech geek I figured I would have to get a 3D setup soon after they become available, but now I seriously want one...it was VERY cool. Looks like DirecTV, ESPN, etc will have content, so this wont just be for Pixar movies on Blu-ray. Also, as expected Sony will have 3D games for the PS3. My wife and I were discussing last night about the accessory market for this....who is going to make the stylish 3D capable sun glasses?

I have not dove into exactly how it works yet, but will when some time frees up, so pardon my ignorance. Toshiba and Sony have technology that real time converts 2D images to 3D. This will sure make our home videos something special....and I'm please to hear that this technology is even possible. I was worried that we were going to need to invest in 3D camcorder equipment. It looked really good.

As for displays in general, yes, they are getting thinner. 1" of depth on large Plasmas. The "Innovations Honoree" awards were dominated by Samsung, LG and Mits. Pleased we carry two of those lines. Seems like the bragging has switched from "We have the biggest, to we have the thinnest."

On a side note, Sim2 was the only theater projector honoree....glad we carry that too. I had a good conversation about their new LED projector. With normal use, by the time the LED on this projector needs to be replaced, we will have 4K resolution projectors available. So...no consumables for the life of the projector, it runs silent, runs cool, and it looks great. Certainly my choice for a Home Theater.

Another cool display was a transparent screen..... Samsung had it connected to a laptop. I want this in a pair of sunglasses connected to a smart phone. I love the Terminator.
